False Spirea is an elegant shade plant with feathery plumes in pink, red, or white above deeply cut foliage. It blooms from June to August, and the plumes retain their ornamental value even when dried. Astilbe thrives in moist, shady spots where many other plants struggle.

Care guide

Plant in partial to full shade in humus-rich, moist soil. Never let the soil dry out — mulching helps retain moisture. Apply compost or leaf mould annually. Divide the clump every three to four years in spring.

Pruning tips

Leave spent plumes in place for winter interest. Cut old foliage and plumes back just above ground level in early spring. Remove damaged leaves during the season.
