Cotoneaster horizontalis
Wall Cotoneaster is a versatile shrub with a distinctive herringbone branch pattern. Tiny pink flowers appear in June attracting bees, followed by masses of bright red berries in autumn. The small leaves turn a beautiful red before falling.
Plant in sun or partial shade in almost any well-drained soil. The plant is extremely adaptable and tolerates drought, wind and urban conditions. Barely any feeding required. Ideal as ground cover on slopes or trained against a wall.
Prune in late spring to maintain shape. The shrub tolerates hard pruning well. Remove dead and crossing wood. Leave berries on as long as possible for bird food.
