Plant in full sun or partial shade in a sheltered, warm position in well-drained soil. Water regularly in the first year. Protect in harsh winters with fleece — moderately hardy. Apply compost and organic fertiliser in spring.

Prune immediately after flowering in August to keep growth in check. The plant tolerates hard pruning but recovers slowly. Train young shoots along wires or trellis. Remove dead wood in spring.
