Plant in sun or partial shade in fertile, well-drained soil. Water regularly in the first year after planting. The plant is sensitive to severe frost — choose a sheltered position in colder areas. Feed with organic fertiliser in spring for vigorous growth.
Trim two to three times per year to keep the hedge neat and encourage new red growth. The best pruning times are after the first flush in June and again in September. Remove dead or diseased branches as soon as they appear.
