Prunus umbellata: complete guide

About Prunus umbellata

Prunus umbellata belongs to the rose family (Rosaceae) and is a small tree or shrub from the southeastern United States, where it grows on sandy ground and in open woodland. In early spring it carries white flowers, often before the leaves appear. The small fruits are dark in color and taste tart.

In a garden it suits a free-standing shrub or a mixed border, preferably in a sunny spot with well-drained soil. Thanks to its blossom it is mainly an ornament in spring.
