Overview

The Canada lily is a magnificent wild lily native to eastern North America with elegant drooping flowers in yellow, orange, and red. The plant grows to approximately 60-120 cm tall.

Appearance and Bloom

The Canada lily features long, slender leaves along the stem. The flowers grow in drooping position, typically 3 to 10 per plant. The petals recurve in Turk's-cap shape.

Blooming occurs from July to August in various colors from pale yellow to deep orange-red.

Ideal Location

The Canada lily thrives best in partial shade to full sunlight. In warmer climates, afternoon shade is beneficial. Protect from strong winds.

Soil Type

Grows best in well-draining, humus-rich soil. Acidic to neutral with pH 6.0 to 7.0. Avoid strongly alkaline soils. Add sand for extra drainage.

Watering

Appreciates regular water especially during growing season. Soil should remain moist but not waterlogged. Gradually reduce after blooming.

Pruning

Remove faded flowers. Leave stems standing until completely brown in fall.

Winter Hardiness

Highly winter hardy to -30 degrees Celsius.
