About Kaempferia galanga
Kaempferia galanga belongs to the ginger family (Zingiberaceae). It is known for its fragrant rhizome, which is used in cooking in parts of Southeast Asia, and for its low rosette of broad leaves that lie close to the ground. The small white flowers with purple markings appear just above the leaves.
The species comes from tropical Asia and is not frost hardy. In cooler climates it is therefore grown in a pot that spends the winter indoors, or in a warm greenhouse.
